WOOODCUT
The art of making woodblock prints: Making images with
heart.
Making prints from carved woodblocks is an ancient craft.
Dating back to the Orient around 1500 years ago, religious and secular subjects
have been recorded for posterity in this manner. Today, printmaking is a tool
for self expression, used to explore ones inner world like a musician listening
to his own music, or a poet rereading a poem. An image you make may reveal what
you feel in ways you can describe in words.
Materials needed for the course
Participants should bring an 8x10 sketchbook for recording
your ideas/images and soft lead pencils.
Materials such as woodblocks, a set of student grade woodcut
tools, paper, printing ink, a wooden spoon and baren to be provided.
There will
be a materials cost of $75.00 in addition to the registration fee.
Course limited to five participants. Some experience with
drawing would be useful but not mandatory.
